Overview

The Senior Network Engineer will support and troubleshoot complex networking environments, focusing on routing protocols (BGP, EIGRP, OSPF) and Layer 3 switching (Cisco 6500, 4500, 3750). This role involves managing medium-sized projects, developing documentation, providing Level 3 break/fix support, and mentoring junior engineers. The ideal candidate has over five years of networking experience, a CCNA (CCNP preferred), and strong skills in network security technologies, including firewalls and VPNs.

Responsibilities

The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for supporting and troubleshooting complex enterprise routing and switching technologies, including protocols like BGP, EIGRP, and OSPF. The role involves installing, administering, and troubleshooting security technologies such as firewalls, VPNs, and IDS. The engineer manages medium-sized projects, develops documentation and testing processes, and provides Level 3 support for enterprise issues. Additionally, the role requires mentoring junior engineers and effectively communicating with management and clients during meetings.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

 

 

Experience:

  • 5+ years in networking
  • 7+ years in IT roles

 

 

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Proficient in routing protocols: BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, and protocol redistribution
  • Expertise in Layer 3 switching, including IP multicast, and WAN technologies like Frame Relay and ATM
  • Strong understanding of security: firewalls (ASA, PIX, CheckPoint), VPNs, IDS
  • Hands-on experience with installing, administering, and troubleshooting Cisco switches (6500, 4500, 3750)
  • Level 3 support for enterprise break/fix
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers
  • Comfortable engaging with management and clients in meetings
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools

 

 

Certifications: CCNA  and CCNP preferred. Must demonstrate skills in Layer 3 switching, WANs, and routing protocols. Extensive experience with firewalls (ASA, CheckPoint) is a plus.

 

 

Travel: 15% domestic 

 

 

Other Requirements:

  • Flexible schedule, including shifts and on-call rotation
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
