Summary:
Foundever is seeking an exceptional Network Automation & Orchestration Engineer to establish and drive our network automation strategy from inception to maturity. This is a transformational role responsible for architecting, implementing, and operationalizing enterprise-grade automation and orchestration capabilities across our global network infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
Automation Strategy & Execution
- Develop and own the network automation roadmap, aligning with business objectives and infrastructure strategy
- Define success metrics and KPIs for automation initiatives, demonstrating measurable ROI and operational improvements
- Establish governance frameworks for automation development, deployment, and lifecycle management
- Drive cultural transformation toward automation-first thinking across network operations teams
- Build strategic partnerships with vendors and technology providers to stay ahead of industry trends
Platform Architecture & Implementation
- Architect and deploy enterprise automation platforms (evaluation required: Ansible Tower/AWX, Terraform Enterprise, ServiceNow ITOA, NetBox, Nautobot)
- Design scalable orchestration frameworks supporting multi-vendor, multi-domain network environments (campus, data center, cloud, SD-WAN)
- Establish GitOps practices with version control, peer review, and CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure as code
- Implement source of truth (SoT) systems for network inventory, configuration state, and documentation
- Create abstraction layers enabling network engineers to consume automation through self-service portals and APIs
Technical Delivery
- Develop production-grade automation for network provisioning, configuration management, compliance validation, and remediation
- Build intelligent workflows integrating network automation with ITSM, monitoring, and observability platforms
- Implement network testing and validation frameworks ensuring changes are verified pre-production
- Create automated documentation systems that maintain accuracy through code-driven processes
- Design disaster recovery and rollback mechanisms for all automated changes
- Develop telemetry collection and analytics pipelines for network insights and predictive automation
Collaboration & Enablement
- Partner with Network Architecture to embed automation into design standards and reference architectures
- Collaborate with Security to ensure automated compliance with security policies and regulatory requirements
- Work with Cloud and DevOps teams to integrate network automation with broader infrastructure automation initiatives
- Mentor and upskill network engineers on automation principles, scripting, and platform usage
- Establish communities of practice and knowledge-sharing forums for automation excellence
Operational Excellence
- Provide Level 3/4 escalation support for complex automation platform and workflow issues
- Establish operational runbooks and playbooks for automation platform management
- Implement monitoring and alerting for automation infrastructure and job execution
- Conduct regular platform health assessments and optimization activities
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent professional experience)
- 7+ years of hands-on network engineering experience in enterprise environments
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience designing and implementing network automation solutions at scale
- Proven track record of greenfield automation platform implementation and organizational adoption
Additional Skills that Would Be Beneficial:
Core Automation & Orchestration:
- Expert-level proficiency with Ansible (Tower/AWX experience strongly preferred)
- Advanced skills in Python for network automation (libraries: Netmiko, NAPALM, Nornir, TextFSM)
- Hands-on experience with Terraform for network infrastructure provisioning
- Practical knowledge of CI/CD platforms (GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
- Experience with source of truth platforms (NetBox, Nautobot, or similar)
Network Technologies:
- Deep understanding of enterprise routing and switching (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, STP, VLANs, VRFs)
- Strong knowledge of network APIs (REST, NETCONF, RESTCONF, gNMI, gRPC)
